Rochdale Town Hall is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture, and in 2021 work began to restore this crumbling historic building to its former glory and open it to the public. Wright Landscapes were given the honour of delivering the £3.8million hard and soft landscape package, transforming the public realm surrounding the Hall from a sea of tarmac to an aesthetically paved area which emphasises the history and architecture of the Grade-1 listed building.

Before this scheme could commence, Wright Landscapes were required to carry out extensive tree works to ready the area for it’s renovation.
Following this, our landscaping work comprised the installation of over 9000 sqm of paving, granite cladding, retaining walls, raised terraces, street furniture, anti-ram barriers and planting schemes - all with the goal of providing a welcoming and connected outdoor space for visitors and members of the community to enjoy.
At the entrance to the building, we thoughtfully installed carpet of natural paving slabs etched with artwork by Doodlher, representing symbols and events from Rochdale's history.
We have collaborated with contractors to ensure we meet all requirements regarding noise and working hours, with limits imposed due to working in a busy environment of local businesses.
